My series on standout Spring 2016 clothing and accessory pairings continues with a second combination: ruffles and chokers.
A ruffled dress paired with a choker is a classic pairing that can come off as little “costumey” if you’re not careful. But done right, the look can be romantic with a slight edge. The jewel tones of this Alice + Olivia dress and this Christian Dior choker keeps this look fresh, not “costumey.”
Chokers also pair well with slip dresses (for a very ’90s look). Which combination do you prefer, chokers and ruffles or chokers and slip dresses?

Wow. You make the ruffles look so flowing and soft. Beautiful. The little puckers in the bodice too. Perfect. Your skin tones are perfect, even the little bump in the wrists. I have those. I used to have a skirt with 3 layers of ruffles with a short matching jacket similar to this blue. I loved that outfit. If I were to pick today I would do choker with slip dress.
Thank you, Joanna!
I would like a ruffled dress!!!!! Never have owned one!!!!!! I’m not a choker kinda girl….. But a dress like that I would love…..
Thanks so much, Emmalisa! Totally understand how you feel about chokers. People seem to either love them or hate them.
Such a beautiful illustration. The dress really looks alive if that makes sense. Gemma x

This illustration is really impressive Mikayla, and the ruffled dress looks lovely with the jewelled choker. Your illustrations are always filled with lovely details and vivid colours, with a sense of movement too. I agree, this look is very dramatic and can definitely make a big impact!
