Hire me to create something beautiful and unique for you.
My approach to creating custom illustrations is that it’s not just about drawing a likeness, it’s about capturing your vibe. Custom portraits make a great one-of-a-kind keepsake or gift. It’s a way to capture a special moment, like a graduation or anniversary. Also, it’s a lovely alternative to the standard headshot. Imagine using a beautiful illustration of you as an avatar image for your social media accounts and the image on your “About” page on your website.
Or you could just get a custom illustration simply because you’d like to have one. Because honestly you don’t need a specific reason or occasion to commission a custom portrait of yourself, or a loved one.
Interested in commissioning a custom illustration? Keep reading for more details on my custom portrait offerings, prices, my terms of service and my commission process. If you have any questions, or are ready to get the commission process started, you can email me at mikayla@sublimecravings.com.
Below are some of my custom portrait offerings. You will receive a digital copy of the final version of your illustration (without a watermark) in both jpeg and png file formats. All portraits will be 8 x 10 (2400 x 3000 px, 300 dpi), unless you request a different size. Requests for a specific portrait size must be made BEFORE I begin the first draft.
If you have a project in mind that does not fit into the offerings listed below, please feel free to email me a description of what you have in mind and I’ll give you a custom quote for your project. The offerings described below are not intended for commercial use, and are only for the client’s personal use. If you would like me to create a custom portrait for commercial use, please email me (mikayla@sublimecravings.com) for pricing information.
PORTRAIT OFFERINGS

SIMPLE PORTRAIT – $225 USD
This portrait option is anything but basic. The subject in the portrait is drawn from the shoulders up, so the emphasis is on the face and hair. The simple portrait features one person, with a solid color or suggestive background. A more detailed background can be added, but at an additional cost.
FLORALS AND FRILLS PORTRAIT – $310 USD
The Florals and Frills portrait features lush blooms and a beautiful dress (or blouse) of your choice. The vibe is ethereal, but by no means demure. Think dreamy and romantic with an underlying edge. The Florals and Frills portrait features one person, with up to 4 flowers (of your choice) in the person’s hair. More flowers can be added, but at an additional cost. The clothing for this portrait offering is from the shoulders up, but is more detailed than the clothing in a Simple Portrait. This portrait offering includes either a solid color background, however, you can request a more detailed background at an additional cost.

FASHION AND ACCESSORIES PORTRAIT – $400 USD
This portrait offering is all about showing off the likeness and personal style of the subject. Because this portrait features the head and torso, the personal style of the subject can shine. The Fashion and Accessories portrait features one person, with a solid or suggestive background. A more detailed background can be added, but at an additional cost.

THE COMMISSION PROCESS
In order to start the process, please send me an email specifying the portrait offering you are interested in (Simple Portrait; Florals and Frills Portrait; Fashion and Accessories Portrait; or Full Body Fashion Illustration) and attach at least 3-5 pictures of you (or the person to be drawn). Ideally these should be close up shots that give me a good sense of facial features. If you requesting a full body illustration, please be sure to include some full body pictures as well. These pics should be clear, preferably high-resolution pictures without a filter. Also, please specify if you have any preferences regarding color scheme (background color, shirt color), clothing (button up shirt, v neck, boat neck, etc.) and background style (solid color, mostly white with a small pop of color).
After receiving your 50% deposit, I will create a first draft of the illustration. There will be a watermark on the initial rough draft. If you select the Simple Portrait, Florals and Frills, or Fashion and Accessories portrait option, you will receive the initial full color rough draft approximately 1-2 weeks after I receive your deposit. You will need to provide me with feedback on the first draft, which I will use to guide the final draft. I will send you the final draft with a watermark. You will be able to request up to 3 minor revisions on the final draft.
If you’ve selected the Full Body Fashion Illustration option, you will receive an initial black and white drawing approximately 1-2 weeks after I receive your 50% deposit. Once you give me feedback, I will more on to a full color draft. Based on your feedback on the full color draft, I will more onto the final version. A more detailed version of the process underlying my Full Body Fashion Illustration can be found here.
For all the portrait offerings (Simple Portrait; Florals and Frills Portrait; Fashion and Accessories Portrait; and Full Body Fashion Illustration), once you approve the final draft and I receive the remaining 50% of the overall commission fee, I will send you a digital version of your completed illustration (without a watermark).
As stated above, the prices listed are only for a digital version of the portrait. If you would like both a digital version and a Giclee print, there is an additional charge for the print (plus shipping and handling). Please note that the actual colors in the print may differ slightly from the colors on your screen. The prices for the prints are as follows:
- 8×8 is $14 plus shipping ($5.95 for US orders, $17 outside the U.S.)
- 8×10 is $16 plus shipping ($5.95 for US orders, $18 outside the U.S.)
- 11×14 is $26 plus shipping ($5.95 for US orders, $21 outside the U.S.)
- 16×20 is $47 plus shipping ($5.95 for US orders, $27 outside the U.S.)
My prints are professionally printed on heavy weight (310g) paper, which has a matte finish and an elegant textured feel.
Each print is sent in a shipping tube. Prints are made to order once the digital version of the illustration is finalized, so please allow 1 to 3 business days for production time, and an additional to 2 to 5 business days for shipping (within the US). For international orders, shipping usually takes between 2 to 4 weeks, not including any delays due to customs or shipping bottlenecks due to Covid. Custom fees and VAT are the responsibility of the client.
TESTIMONIALS

“Just beautiful! I love it so much. Thank you.”
Jessica S.

“The thought of getting professional headshots taken was overwhelming, so I asked Mikayla to create an illustration I could use on my portfolio and LinkedIn. I saw her work in an Etsy search and appreciated the care and detail she put into her images. The final portrait is perfect for my needs and more intricate than I could’ve imagined.”
