Runway Look: Marc Jacobs Fall 2019

Sublime Cravings Illustration - Marc Jacobs Fall 2019

There were so many covet worthy pieces in Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2019 collection, but Adut Akech in this yellow gown was definitely a highlight of the runway show. The model was nothing short of stunning in an off-the-shoulder tiered taffeta gown, which was paired with a beanie decorated with feathers.

Runway Look: Tom Ford Spring 2018

Current Cravings

Whether in pale pink silk or bold pink velvet, these blazers make a statement. I love these 2 looks from Tom Ford’s Spring 2018 runway show. The key to the sophistication of these looks is the contrast of textures and colors. For instance sumptuous silk is paired with chain mail in the look on the left, and it is paired with velvet in the look on the right. Also, blush tone pieces provide a perfect contrast for the strategic pops of color from the velvet blazer and cap-toe pumps.

Blogger Portrait: Dee for Dana

Current Cravings

Beautiful with an amazing sense of style, my latest blogger portrait features Dee, of Dee for Dana. Dee’s fashion choices manage to be elegant and sophisticated while still conveying a sense of playfulness. Case in point, those impossibly sunny yellow heels she’s wearing in this illustration.  She’s a fashionista after my own heart, because we share a love of cooking and 90’s hip hop and R&B.

Craving Spring Trends: Chokers and Ruffles

Current Cravings

My series on standout Spring 2016 clothing and accessory pairings continues with a second combination: ruffles and chokers.

A ruffled dress paired with a choker is a classic pairing that can come off as little “costumey” if you’re not careful. But done right, the look can be romantic with a slight edge. The jewel tones of this Alice + Olivia dress and this Christian Dior choker keeps this look fresh, not “costumey.”

Chokers also pair well with slip dresses (for a very ’90s look). Which combination do you prefer, chokers and ruffles or chokers and slip dresses?

Golden Globes 2016: Jennifer Lopez in Giambattista Valli

Current Cravings

Jennifer Lopez Golden Globes Sublime Cravings
Although Jennifer Lopez has a tried and true winning red carpet formula-think sparkles, nude illusion, and cutouts-some of her best red carpet looks deviate from this formula. This gorgeous yellow Giambattista Valli dress doesn’t fit J Lo’s red carpet formula, which is probably why I love the way she looks in it. Don’t get me wrong, I adore J Lo in the sparkly body-con gowns she’s known for, but when she occasionally departs from her red carpet formula it’s magic.

Scream Queens and Pumpkin Spice Lattes

Current Cravings

It’s hard to believe that only one episode of Scream Queens has aired, because I’ve become instantly addicted to this campy guilty pleasure. This Ryan Murphy confection is best described as a cross between Mean Girls and the Scream franchise. Plus there is a heaping dose of incredible fashion. And many of the most covetable ensembles are worn by Chanel No. 1, played by Emma Roberts.

This particular illustration is inspired by Chanel No. 1’s rant over the proper preparation of her pumpkin spice latte. I pity the schmuck who comes between Chanel No. 1 and her “trenta, no foam. Five shot, half-caf, no foam, pumpkin spice latte, with no foam at 210 degrees.”

Feminine and Whimsical: Kate Spade Spring 2016

Current Cravings

There were so many lovely and covetable pieces at yesterday’s Kate Spade show. I’m certain, however, this pink dress with a large bow was a favorite for those who adore the whimsical and feminine aesthetic Kate Spade is known for. And of course I had to include the super cute carousel inspired bag in this illustration!

Feeling Feisty

Current Cravings

For me “feeling feisty” is all about self respect and honoring your own value; not making yourself feel better at others’ expense.

I’m a recovering people pleaser who is currently prioritizing my opinions and goals. At this point in my life, making choices that are authentic to who I am does not come naturally, but I am determined to do it. I am over trying to be perceived as “likable” by everyone I encounter. I will always attempt to be kind to others, but I must always be kind to myself first. What do I mean by being kind to myself? I mean no more pleasing others at my own expense.

My current mantra is best summed up by this quote:

“It’s about being alive and feisty and not sitting down and shutting up even though people would like you to.” – Pink

If you’re a recovering people pleaser, I’d love to hear your tactics and strategies for avoiding pleasing others at your own expense.

Winged Eyeliner and Oversized Bows: Moschino 2012

Current Cravings

A few days ago, I came across a backstage picture from the Moschino Fall 2012 show in my Instagram feed. The fun yet glam feel of the show inspired me to create this quick illustration. Moschino’s Fall 2012 collection had a decidedly mod feel, so I created a background with elements that are quintessentially mod: bright color and bold pattern.
