Golden Globes 2021: Regina King in Louis Vuitton

Current Cravings

The last red carpet look I illustrated was Regina King at the 2020 Oscars, which was just before the start of the pandemic. As the 2021 red carpet season approached, I was not sure that I wanted to draw any red carpet looks this year. Obviously that uncertainty did not last very long.

I’m a fan of Regina King’s acting, directing and red carpet lewks. So given my affinity for Regina King, it makes sense that seeing her in this custom Louis Vuitton gown made it impossible for me to not draw this red carpet (by way of Zoom) look.

Growth

Current Cravings
Sublime Cravings Growth

Growth means different things to different people. For me it means doing the internal work that is necessary for me to unapologetically be myself and take up space.

I’ve learned that hacks and shortcuts aren’t sustainable ways to supercharge growth. Also, a general intention to change a particular habit is not sufficient for achieving substantial, long lasting growth. Instead, growth requires a commitment to small, specific and meaningful changes over a prolonged period of time. Inherent in the growth process are missteps, and even moments of relapse. Embrace the process and remember that growth is a journey, not a destination.

Be kind to yourself. And be sure to prune the things in your life that hinder your growth.

Dwellings: Serenity Now

Current Cravings, Dwellings

In this noisy world, we all need a place of refuge. We require a place to slow down and quiet the distractions of the outside world, but first… be sure to silence your phone.

By the way, here’s my illustration that I based this quick animation on.

Runway Look: Givenchy Couture Spring 2020

Current Cravings

Beautiful, dramatic, sculptural and romantic. Nothing says haute couture like face framing over-sized ruffles studded with pearls. It’s a pleasure to watch Claire Waight Keller explore her design aesthetic at Givenchy.

One of my favorite looks from this year’s Grammys red carpet is Lizzo in Atelier Versace. The strapless white dress paired with a white faux fur stole evoked old Hollywood glam vibes.

Virtus Bags: Versace Fall 2019

Current Cravings

Virtus bags - Versace Fall 2019 - Sublime Cravings Illustration

Here’s my illustration for the latest DrawADot. open call, which celebrates the launch of Versace Virtus bag. For the open call, illustrators were asked to make Virtus bags the focus of the illustration. We were encouraged to be creative and use Versace’s fall 2019 collection for inspo. Because the collection was all about Donatella’s take on 90s grunge (think grunge elements but with the quintessential Versace elements of bold colors, patterns, bondage harnesses, and oversized safety pins), I decided to do a modern take on the Versace ad campaigns of the 90’s.

Sublime Cravings Illustration - Chanel Spring 2016 - Tribute to Lagerfeld

A Tribute to Karl Lagerfeld: Chanel Spring 2016 RTW

Current Cravings

Sublime Cravings Illustration - Chanel Spring 2016 - Tribute to Lagerfeld

I recently participated in Draw A Dot.’s open call, A Tribute to Karl Lagerfeld. Above is my submission, which was among the top 9 pieces selected to be displayed on Draw A Dot.’s Instagram account. If you are interested in checking out all the amazing submissions to the open call, you can find them on Draw A Dot.’s Facebook page.

Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel runway shows weren’t just about presenting his beautiful designs, but were also intended to be an experience all unto itself. This illustration features looks from Chanel’s Spring 2016 RTW airport themed collection. When discussing his vision of the show and collection Lagerfeld said, “It’s the idea of how it should look.” So for this illustration, I decided to extend Lagerfeld’s vision and glam air travel aesthetic beyond the airport terminal by bringing the sophistication and whimsy of his collection out onto the literal runway.
