Craving Spring Trends: Chokers and Ruffles

Current Cravings

My series on standout Spring 2016 clothing and accessory pairings continues with a second combination: ruffles and chokers.

A ruffled dress paired with a choker is a classic pairing that can come off as little “costumey” if you’re not careful. But done right, the look can be romantic with a slight edge. The jewel tones of this Alice + Olivia dress and this Christian Dior choker keeps this look fresh, not “costumey.”

Chokers also pair well with slip dresses (for a very ’90s look). Which combination do you prefer, chokers and ruffles or chokers and slip dresses?

Dance Like Nobody’s Watching: Proenza Schouler Spring 2016

Current Cravings

You can dance like nobody’s watching, but if you’re wearing this Proenza Schouler tiered ruffled dress, chances are that all eyes will be on you. Of course a Pantene commercial worthy hair flip is pretty attention grabbing as well.

Craving Spring Trends: Statement Earrings & Off the Shoulder Tops

Current Cravings

This post is the first in a series featuring craveable Spring 2016 trends. Specifically, I will be sharing illustrations that highlight standout clothing and accessory pairings.

The first pairing is statement earrings and off the shoulder tops. These Rodarte earrings are undeniable showstoppers, but when paired with this The Row top, both pieces work together to draw attention to the shoulders. And showing off your shoulders is not only universally flattering, but can be a sophisticated way to show a little skin.

What do you think of statement earrings paired with off the shoulder tops?

In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing more illustrations featuring Spring 2016 trend pairings. Which spring trends are you planning to incorporate into your wardrobe?

Runway Look: Alexandre Vauthier Couture Spring 2016

Current Cravings

Sublime Cravings- Alexandre Vauthier Couture

I adore the Parisian bombshell vibe that pervaded the Alexandre Vauthier Couture show. Over-the-knee boots and silk cargo pants paired with military styled coats managed to feel strong and sexy, but not contrived. And those Ray-Ban aviator specs-I want some of those immediately!

Twirling in Tulle: Giambattista Valli Couture Spring 2016

Current Cravings

Sublime Cravings - Giambattista Valli Couture Spring 2016
How can you stop yourself from twirling in a gown made of tiered tulle ruffles? Impossible, right?

One of my favorite elements of every Giambattista Valli Couture show are the floaty tulle tiered gowns that appear at the end of the show. The red gown was definitely a show stopper.

Silk and Lace: Givenchy Spring 2016

Lace and Silk - Givenchy - Sublime Cravings
Several Spring 2016 RTW collections featured lingerie inspired looks, but one of my favorite collections – by far – was Givenchy. Black lace and silk is about as lux as it gets. Although I don’t usually associate black lace and silk with spring, I’m certain that I’ll be searching for a lingerie inspired black lace and silk dress this spring. Are you a fan of lingerie inspired clothes?

Balmain Beauty: Gigi Hadid in Balmain Spring 2016

Current Cravings

Sublime Cravings - Gigi Hadid - Balmain
As soon as I saw pics of Gigi Hadid wearing this outfit in the Spring 2016 Balmain show, I just knew I had to create an illustration featuring this look. I adore the “too glam to give a damn” vibe that Balmain exudes, and my goal was to capture that feeling in this drawing. Also, the Balmain aesthetic is all about embellishment and extravagant details (as evidenced by this graphic metal skirt), and I seem to have this odd obsession with rendering intricate details.

Runway Look: Jason Wu Spring 2016

Current Cravings

Refined and sexy, it was all about ruffles and glamour at Jason Wu’s Spring 2016 show. One of my favorite looks from the collection is the beautiful coral pink ruffled cocktail dress on the left. Which look from Jason Wu is your favorite?

By the way, I’ve noticed that when I draw runway looks from Jason Wu’s collections I can’t seem to draw just one (see my illustration of 3 looks from his Fall 2015 collection).

Feminine and Whimsical: Kate Spade Spring 2016

Current Cravings

There were so many lovely and covetable pieces at yesterday’s Kate Spade show. I’m certain, however, this pink dress with a large bow was a favorite for those who adore the whimsical and feminine aesthetic Kate Spade is known for. And of course I had to include the super cute carousel inspired bag in this illustration!
